Laura Sheerin

Soprano

The Soprano was born in Derry, Ireland and obtained her Bachelor´s and Master’s degrees in performance from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. She was the recipient of the Young Musicians’ Platform Award from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and the BBC for 2013-15, a Headley Trust Bursary 2010/11 and the Yamaha Vocal Scholarship 2009/10. She has performed such roles as Micaëla (Carmen), Manon (Manon), Mimì (La Bohème), Vespina (L’infedeltà delusa), Dew Fairy (Hansel and Gretel) NI Opera, Venus (Orpheus in the Underworld) among other important roles. Laura is under the guidance of world renowned soprano, Nelly Miricioiu at the Royal Opera House.

Laura has premiered the role of Zerlina (Madame X) at the Grimeborne Festival and the role of Marie (Le gateau d’anniversaire) in the Purcell Room, Southbank Centre. She also performed in the Plácido Domingo Theatre, under the baton of Maestro Plácido Domingo in “Su Majestad la Zarzuela”. Afterwards, Laura performed the role of Mimì (La Bohème) with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Zapopan, in the new Placido Domingo Theatre in Guadalajara and under the direction of Joshua Mayor and Joan Dornemann of the Metropolitan Opera House. On the concert platform, highlights include performances with the Ulster Orchestra and BBC Radio, Orquesta Sinfónica and Orquesta de Cámara de Zapopan, Camerata de Coahuila, Quercus Ensemble at the City of London Festival and St John’s Smith Square, Mozart Requiem, Handel Messiah and Bach St John Passion with the Chiswick Choir and Orchestra, Strauss Vier letzte Lieder with the Sheffield Symphony Orchestra.

Laura has performed regularly for BBC Radio on various programmes, including Sounds Classical and Classical Connections, and has featured as a soloist a number of times in UK television shows. During the summer of 2019, she recorded Marguerite (Faust) with the National Symphony Orchestra in London.

In the ongoing season Laura will be performing the roles of Marguerite (Faust) and Violetta Valéry (La Traviata). In 2020, Laura will appear as Marguerite (Faust) in the new HBO series, The Nevers directed by Joss Whedon.
